Johnny Powell - Guitar

Why are you Passionate about Teaching Music?
I believe in passing on knowledge and experiences to anyone seeking to improve themselves or their community. I want to help make those positive changes by sharing with others what I have learned and experienced.

What makes you unique from other teachers?
I am self-taught and my methods of learning music and guitar would likely be considered unorthodox. I feel this gives me a flexibility to adapt to the student's best method of learning whether it be by reading tablature, musical notation, or playing by ear.

How would you describe the atmosphere/energy in your teaching studio?
I want my students to have fun and feel relaxed while we work through the material. The studio should be a place for the student to enjoy music and enjoy learning their instrument. At the end of the session, I want my student to be encouraged by their progress and inspired to conquer the next challenge in their education.

What is something fun about you that you would like people to know?
I could probably eat pizza every day. I enjoy a good pun or play on words. Monopoly and Settlers of Catan are my favorite board games. I play guitar professionally for the party band Alabama Avenue. I wear zebra pants on stage.

What are your passions outside of teaching?
I enjoy writing and creating music. I'm a fan of Auburn University athletics, especially football. I'm interested in history and the occasional deep dive into Biblical history and military history. I'm also a student of Biblical eschatology. I love spending time with my wife and kids.
